Gallbladder Disease

The gallbladder is located right under the liver at the right side. It is small and shaped like a pear. The main function it performs is to collect the bile in the body, concentrate it and use it to digest the fat. Gallbladder disease includes the inflammation of the gallbladder, inflammation on the bile ducts, formation of stones within the gallbladder or bile duct and obstruction to free movement of bile. The fatty liver is something associated greatly with gallbladder disease. The gallbladder is divided into 3 sections: the neck, the body and the fundus. It is in layers, these layers include epithelium, lamina propria, the muscularis, perimuscular and the serosa.

The gallbladder is found within all vertebrate except horses, rat and deer. In human, we find just one bile duct but in other species we find series of ducts. Some animals such as some mammals and birds do not have a gallbladder at all. Without the gallbladder, our digestive system will not function properly as many of the food we take are composed of fat. It is not unusual for the gallbladder to malfunction and this is why we have gallbladder disease or disorder. The problems associated with gallbladder are not life threatening and can be rectified in most cases. There is no need for you to panic if it is discovered that you have gallbladder disease. Should you choose to rush straight to the hospital for surgery might not be a solution because even after the doctor removes the gallbladder you might still be experiencing serious pain in the abdominal region.

Another gallbladder disease is the gallstones. This is very common but is not the cause of the pain that many individuals suffering from gallbladder disorder feel. Study has shown that not everybody that has pain in the bile is suffering from gallbladder disease. There are other things that could result into this pain and to identify if you actually are having a disorder in the gallbladder you will be subjected to a series of test that include a HIDA SCAN. The essence of this scan is to make an evaluating study of the condition of the liver, also to determine the functioning capability and evaluate the present state of the gallbladder. Aside from this, a blood test can also be carried out to determine if the liver is working properly.

Aside from gallbladder disease, stomach ulcer, and pancreatic disorder can also cause an abdominal pain. It is necessary that the doctor examines you properly so that he can determine whether the pain you are feeling is caused by something else other than the gallbladder disorder. You can always tell if you are experiencing the pain as a result of gallbladder disease if you observe an abdominal pain that extends to the back and also to the right side of your ribcage. Gallbladder disease are normally not life threatening so you shouldn’t think the end has come if the doctor diagnoses you with this, just relax and allow him to commence the treatment.
